Nature Education Centre

The Nature Education Centre (NEC) can be found on the Urrbrae Education Campus, along side the Urrbrae Wetland and Urrbrae Farm. 

The NEC is open from 1:30pm - 5:30pm Monday - Saturday for loans and purchases. 
   - Closed Sunday and Public Holidays 
    - Hours are flexible for school excursions.

This offers the wonderful opportunity to incoporate a joint visit to the Urrbrae Wetland and Nature Education Centre where the students can interact with a variety of  native animals and preserved specimens. 

An NEC Education Officer, will work the Wetland Manager to tailor a program specific to the learning needs of each group, whether it be a focus on habitats, adaptations, life cycles or general ecology. Students will also learn how to handle wildlife and the food and care they need in captivity.

 ​Educational Talks by the Nature Education Centre - Excursions and Incursions 

Visit the NEC or have their Education Officer visit your school with a range of exciting native animals for the students to study and touch. Talks are suitable for children of all ages and provide a valuable hands-on learning experience. Just call 8357 3413 to arrange a visit. 

Animals and Topics 

Speak to the Education Officer to discuss a topic that fits your curriculum. Popular Topics include: 
  • Native Australian Animals including insects, frogs, reptiles and marsupials 
  • Mini beasts 
  • Habitats
  • Special features (adaptations) 
  • Life cycles and Seasonal Changes 

Bookings - these can be made separate from the Urrbrae Wetland 

Talks are available for groups of up to 30 students (plus carers) weekdays during the school term and holiday periods. Sessions are 45 minutes long and can be arranged with by contacting the NEC on 8357 3413. 

Costs*

$5.50 per student for members 
$6.60 per student for members 

For each session the minimum rate is $120.00 for visits to the NEC or $150.00 for the Education Officer to visit you (2 consecutive talks are preferable and will incur a minimum charge of $210.00

* A $20.00 petrol surcharge will apply for talks more than 20km away from the NEC.
